about

william staleyI am a web developer. I build the web from the ground up, sometimes from the middle out, and every once in a while from the top down. I build to watch the web move and watch the people wonder at it.

I didn’t find my niche in web development until after college. I was working in publishing at the time and a few things changed my direction. One was the way our company and my department, of which I was the lead, was doing business. I knew there were more effective and efficient ways to do our job. So I explored the use of current technologies as a way to concentrate our efforts on the tasks at hand. I was able to completely reformat our day-to-day operations. Our sales grew and our department, which at one time consisted of 6 people, was trimmed to just 3 with the others changing their direction and moving over to other departments.

The other was an independent project I started with a few coworkers and friends. There was a need within me to do something creative, so I began publishing my own independent arts and music publication in New York City. Over two years, outside of my nine-to-five, I worked with art directors, writers, musicians and a slew of creative individuals to put out 5 issues. I built the website myself and with it garnered advertising and guest writers until it grew bigger and more profitable than the publication itself. To date the magazine is one of my most crowning achievements.

It’s taken a while for me to be able to call myself a good developer, which I can now do with confidence. But for as long as I can remember I’ve been a leader. I’ve always wanted to learn more or create something bigger and I’ve always figured out a way to do it. I love what I do every day. I am able to breathe life and energy into things that others will see daily. I make things move.
